Needle Bearing Eliminator for 8" IFS (Clamshell Bushing)

As much as we love our Toyota trucks, we have to admit that Tacoma IFS differentials have been problematic since the early 2000s. The 8" IFS clamshell differential in particular has frustrated owners with its vibrations and droning hums. Often, these symptoms occur in low mileage or even brand new trucks. The fault is due to driver's side CV shaft differential bearing. The driver's side CV shaft enters the differential by way of a thin needle bearing while the passenger side uses a larger ball bearing. The weaker driver side bearing does not handle side loads effectively. This problem is exacerbated with lifts and larger than stock tires. The poor factory bearing design even includes a plastic cage that can fracture into pieces that can potentially damage your spider gears. 

Toyota Service Bulletin T-SB-0026-15 describes how to identify this problem in applications including 2005-2015 Tacomas, 2007-2014 FJ Cruisers and 2004-2015 4Runners. Unfortunately, Toyota technicians will generally recommend replacing the factory bearing with a new "stronger" needle bearing that is almost identical to the original and has been known to suffer from the same issues.
